The Foolish Monkey

English: Monkeys in Jaipur, India. I don’t know what kind. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

It was a cold and silent night. The weather was freezing cold. A group of monkeys was on a tree. They were clinging to its branches. One of the monkeys said, “I wish we could find some fire. It will help us to keep warm.”

Suddenly they noticed a flock of fireflies. One of the young monkeys thought it was fire. He caught a firefly. He put it under a dry leaf and started blowing at it. Some other monkeys also joined in his efforts.

In the meanwhile, a sparrow came flying to its nest, which was on the same tree the monkeys were sitting on. She noticed what they were doing. The sparrow laughed. She said, “Hey silly monkeys that is a firefly, not real fire. I think all of you should take shelter in a cave.”

The monkeys did not listen to the sparrow. They continued to blow at the poor firefly.

After some time, the monkeys became very tired. Now they realized that what the sparrow had said was correct. They set free the firefly and moved to a nearby cave.

Moral of the Story: While persistence is one of the most defining qualities of a good student, there’s always something new to be learned every day! The monkeys in the story sure are persistent but their hard work didn’t pay off because they refused to listen, at least initially. Always listen to your elders, they know better!

The Greedy Boy

Sam and Tom were identical twins. They were so identical that even their mother found it difficult to distinguish one from the other, at least during their initial days on earth.

However, they were very different from each other when it came to everything other than their appearance. Sam had no friends, while Tom was a great friendship maker. Sam loved sweets, but Tom loved spicy food and detested sweets. Sam was mommy’s pet and Tom was daddy’s pet. While Sam was generous and selfless, Tom was greedy and selfish!

As Sam and Tom grew up, their father wanted to share his fortune equally amongst them. However, Tom did not agree and he argued that whoever proved to be more intelligent and strong would have to get a bigger share of the wealth.

Sam agreed. Their father decided to organize a competition between the two. He asked the two sons to walk as long as they could, and return home before sunset. The wealth would be divided in proportion to the distance covered. As a rule of the competition, they were not permitted to carry a watch to keep track of the time.

The following day, Sam and Tom set out to walk. It was a rather sunny day. Sam walked slowly and steadily, while Tom broke into a sprint as he was bent on winning the race and winning a greater portion of his father’s wealth.

Sam knew that it would be ideal to walk as far as possible until noon and start for home at noon as it would take the same amount of time to walk back home. Knowing this, Sam decided to turn back for home at noon so as reach home on time.

However, Tom, with his greed to earn more wealth, did not attempt to return home even after mid-noon. He walked twice as long as Sam and thought he would still be able to return home before sunset. He hurried back when he saw the sun turn orange. Unfortunately, he could not even make it half way home as the sun started to set. Slowly darkness engulfed his path and he had to drag his tired feet back home.

He had lost the race because of his greed.

Moral of the Story: It’s tempting sometimes to pull a fast one to get ahead of everyone else. In the story, Tom thought that by outsmarting his twin brother, he’ll be able to accumulate an extra portion of his inheritance. His greed caused him to overestimate his own abilities and this led him to lose the race… and money in the process.  Meanwhile, Sam’s hard work paid off, he was able to win the raise through persistence.

The Proud Teak

There was a proud teak tree in the forest. He was tall and strong. There was a small herb next to the tree.

The teak tree said, “I am very handsome and strong. No one can defeat me.” Hearing this, the herb replied, “Dear friend, too much pride is harmful. Even the strong will fall one day.”

The teak ignored the herb’s words. He continued to praise himself. A strong wind blew. The teak stood firmly. Even when it rained, the teak stood strong by spreading its leaves.

During these times, the herb bowed low. The teak made fun of the herb. One day, there was a storm in the forest. The herb bowed low. As usual, the teak did not want to bow.

The storm kept growing stronger. The teak could no longer bear it. He felt his strength giving way. He tried his best to stand upright, but in the end, he fell down. That was the end of the proud tree.

When everything was calm again, the herb stood straight. He looked around. He saw that the proud teak had fallen.

Moral of the Story: Do not let your pride get in the way of overcoming great difficulties. The proud teak was so prideful; he thought he was stronger than the howling wind. His inability to yield eventually caused his own fall.

Three Sons and a Bundle of Sticks

Once upon a time, an old man lived with his three sons in a village. The three sons were hard workers. Still, they quarreled all the time. The old man tried a lot to unite them but he failed. Though the villagers appreciated their hard work and efforts, they made fun of them on their fights.

Months passed by and the old man fell sick. He told his sons to stay united, but they didn’t listen to him. So, he decided to teach them a practical lesson so that they would forget their differences and stay united.

The old man called his sons. He told them, “I will give you a bundle of sticks. Separate each stick and you will have to break each stick into two. The one who breaks the sticks quickly will be rewarded more.” The sons agreed.

The old man gave a bundle of 10 sticks to each of them and asked them to break each stick into pieces. They broke the sticks into pieces in minutes. And again they started to quarrel among themselves as to who came first.

The old man said, “Dear sons, the game is not over. Now I will give another bundle of sticks to each of you. You will have to break the sticks as a bundle, not as separate sticks.”

The sons agreed and tried to break the bundle of sticks. Though they tried their best, they could not break the bundle. They failed to complete the task. The three sons reported their failure to their father.

The old man replied, “Dear sons, See! You could easily break the single sticks into pieces, but you were not able to break the bundle! So if you stay united, nobody can do any harm to you. If you quarrel every time with your brothers, anyone can easily defeat you. I request you to stay united.”

The three sons understood the power of unity and promised their father that whatever be the situation, they would all stay together.

Moral of the Story: When it comes to solving problems, it’s much easier to work together as a group rather than spend all that time bickering. This goes especially for projects that are nearing their deadlines. It’s important to focus on the task and help each other overcome roadblocks rather than argue.

The Greedy Mouse

A greedy mouse saw a basket full of corn. He wanted to eat all of the corn so he made a small hole in the basket. He squeezed in through the hole. He ate a lot of corn until he was full and was very happy.

Now he wanted to come out. He tried to come out through the small hole. He could not. His belly was full. He tried again. But it was of no use.

The mouse started crying. A rabbit was passing by. It heard the mouse’s cry and asked, “Why are you crying, my friend?”

The mouse explained, “I made a small hole and came into the basket to eat the corn. Now I am not able to get out through that hole.”

The rabbit said, “It is because you ate too much. Wait till your belly shrinks.” The rabbit laughed and went away. The mouse fell asleep in the basket. The next morning his belly had shrunk. But he wanted to eat some more corn. He forgot all about getting out of the basket. So he ate the corn and his belly was really big again.

After eating, the mouse remembered that he had to escape. But obviously, he could not. So he thought, “Oh! Now I will go out tomorrow.”

The cat was the next passerby. He smelt the mouse in the basket. He lifted its lid and ate the mouse.

Moral of the Story: Being greedy will be your undoing. While it’s great to make the most out of a successful venture, do not be too greedy that you’re hoarding all the rewards. Don’t be like the greedy mouse who did not realize his own predicament until it’s too late!

The Indecisive Frog

English: The Red-eyed Tree Frog (Litoria chloris) found in eastern Australia. Français : Litoria chloris, une grenouille arboricole de l’est australien. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Once the frog fell in a vessel of the hot water. The water was still on a gas stove. The frog still did not try to jump out of the vessel, instead just stayed in it. As the temperature of the water started to rise, the frog managed to adjust its body temperature accordingly. As the water started to reach the boiling point, the frog was no longer able to keep up and manage its body temperature according to the water temperature.

The frog tried to jump out of the vessel but with water temperature reaching its boiling point, the frog was not able to bear it and couldn’t make it. What was the reason that a frog couldn’t make it? Will you blame the hot water for it?

Moral of the Story: Sometimes in life, things do not happen the way we want them to be. But no matter how unhappy we are with the situation, it’s important to spring to action so we can face the problem head on. The frog in the story was indecisive and stubborn. Instead of jumping out of the water right away, he waited until he could no longer bear the heat, dying in the process. Known when to adjust to certain situations and take appropriate action before it’s too late!

The False Friend

Once two friends were walking through the forest. They knew that anything dangerous could happen to them at any time in the forest. So they promised each other that they would remain united in any case of danger.

Suddenly, they saw a large bear approaching them. One of the friends at once climbed a nearby tree. But the other one did not know how to climb. So being led by his common sense, he lay down on the ground breathless, pretending to be a dead man.

The bear came near the man lying on the ground. It smelt in his ears, and slowly left the place. Because the bears do not touch the dead creatures. Now the friend on the tree came down and asked his friend on the ground, “Friend, what did the bear tell you into your ears?” The other friend replied, “The bear advised me not to believe a false friend.”

Moral of the Story: Being in a new surrounding with a new set of friends is indeed exciting if you’re a student. But beware of the people who are just posing as your friend. In the same way, you have to be supportive of your friends by standing by them in any situation.

Cat in a Hole

One day, an old man was having a stroll in the forest when he suddenly saw a little cat stuck in a hole. The poor animal was struggling to get out. So, he gave him his hand to get him out. But the cat scratched his hand with fear. The man pulled his hand screaming with pain. But he did not stop; he tried to give a hand to the cat again and again.

Another man was watching the scene, screamed with surprise, “For god sakes! Stop helping this cat! He’s going to get himself out of there”.

The other man did not care about him, he just continued saving that animal until he finally succeeded, And then he walked to that man and said, “Son, it is cat’s Instincts that makes him scratch and to hurt, and it is my job to love and care”.

Moral of the Story: Always treat everyone with respect and kindness but do not expect other people to treat you the way you want to be treated. We cannot control how others react to certain situations but you can certainly control your own.

Five More Minutes

While at the park one day, a woman sat down next to a man on a bench near a playground.  “That’s my son over there,” she said, pointing to a little boy in a red sweater who was gliding down the slide.  “He’s a fine looking boy”, the man said. “That’s my daughter on the bike in the white dress.”

Then, looking at his watch, he called to his daughter. “What do you say we go, Melissa?”  Melissa pleaded, “Just five more minutes, Dad. Please? Just five more minutes.”  The man nodded and Melissa continued to ride her bike to her heart’s content. Minutes passed and the father stood and called again to his daughter. “Time to go now?”

Again Melissa pleaded, “Five more minutes, Dad. Just five more minutes.”  The man smiled and said, “OK.”  “My, you certainly are a patient father,” the woman responded.

The man smiled and then said, “Her older brother Tommy was killed by a drunk driver last year while he was riding his bike near here. I never spent much time with Tommy and now I’d give anything for just five more minutes with him. I’ve vowed not to make the same mistake with Melissa.  She thinks she has five more minutes to ride her bike. The truth is, I get five more minutes to watch her play.”

Moral of the Story: Life as a student can be downright hectic but as long as your priorities are straight, you’ll be able to make the most out of your hard work. In the story, the man learned the hard way to prioritize his family on top of all others. No matter how busy things get, don’t forget to spend time with people that matters to you!

The Smart Worker

Once upon a time, a very strong woodcutter asked for a job with a timber merchant, and he got it. The pay was really good and so were the work conditions. For that reason, the woodcutter was determined to do his best. His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he was supposed to work. The first day, the woodcutter brought 21 trees.

“Congratulations,” the boss said. “Go on that way!”

Very motivated by the boss’ words, the woodcutter tried harder the next day but he only could bring 17 trees. The third day he tried even harder, but he only could bring 10 trees. Day after day, he was bringing less and less trees.

“I must be losing my strength”, the woodcutter thought. He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on.

“When was the last time you sharpened your axe?” the boss asked. “Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees.”

Moral of the Story: Sometimes working hard alone is not enough to achieve success. You have to work smartly too! The woodcutter in the story is the best person for the job but he doesn’t have the right attitude to be successful in this particular task. With the right attitude, nothing is impossible in life.

It’s Little Things

English: Girl walking in a beach. Porto Covo, ...
English: Girl walking in a beach. Porto Covo, Portugal. Français : Une fille marche sur une plage. Porto Covo, Portugal. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

There was a man taking a morning walk at or the beach. He saw that along with the morning tide came hundreds of starfish and when the tide receded, they were left behind and with the morning sun rays, they would die. The tide was fresh and the starfish were alive. The man took a few steps, picked one and threw it into the water. He did that repeatedly.

Right behind him, there was another person who couldn’t understand what this man was doing. He caught up with him and asked, “What are you doing? There are hundreds of starfish. How many can you help? What difference does it make?” This man did not reply, took two more steps, picked up another one, threw it into the water, and said, “It makes a difference to this one.”

What difference are we making? Big or small, it does not matter. If everyone made a small difference, we’d end up with a big difference, wouldn’t we?

Moral of the Story: It’s the little things that make a huge impact in our lives. Sometimes we ignore the small things that are already in front of us because we lose sight of what is important. A small act of kindness, actions that seem insignificant for most people could mean the world to another person!

Meaningless Goals

A farmer had a dog who used to sit by the roadside waiting for vehicles to come around. As soon as one came he would run down the road, barking and trying to overtake it. One day a neighbor asked the farmer “Do you think your dog is ever going to catch a car?” The farmer replied, “That is not what bothers me. What bothers me is what he would do if he ever caught one.”

Moral of the Story: Do you know anyone who, just like the dog in the story, is pursuing meaningless goals in life? Life is too short to chase after things that don’t make an impact on our lives. Live each day as if it’s your last, pursue your goals with passion!

How would You Like to be Remembered?

About a hundred years ago, a man looked at the morning newspaper and to his surprise and horror, read his name in the obituary column. The newspapers had reported the death of the wrong person by mistake. His first response was shock. Am I here or there? When he regained his composure, his second thought was to find out what people had said about him.

The obituary read, “Dynamite King Dies.” And also “He was the merchant of death.” This man was the inventor of dynamite and when he read the words “merchant of death,” he asked himself a question, “Is this how I am going to be remembered?” He got in touch with his feelings and decided that this was not the way he wanted to be remembered. From that day on, he started working toward peace. His name was Alfred Nobel and he is remembered today by the great Nobel Prize.

Moral of the Story: Alfred Nobel redefined himself and changed for the better because he came face to face with the realization that what he did in life will stay in the minds of people around him forever. This goes long before he’s gone. That’s why he took a step back and reassessed his life. How many people do you know who would do the same? More importantly, ever wondered what your legacy will be? How would you like to be remembered?

The Obstacles in Our Path

In ancient times, a king had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king’s wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it.

Many loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the big stone out of the way. Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. On approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded.

As the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many others never understand. Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve one’s condition.

Moral of the Story: Most of us perceive roadblocks as problems that hinder us from achieving our goals in life but look at these challenges this way: they are there to help you become a better person. These challenges will lead you to success! Instead of avoiding the inevitable, face it head on. Who knows? You might find treasure underneath all your struggles the same way the peasant found a bag of gold coins underneath the rock he just pushed out of the way!

Roadblocks are there to help you become a better person. Click To Tweet

Everyone is Important

During Mark’s first month of college, the professor gave his students a pop quiz. He was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions until he read the last one: “What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?” Surely, this was some kind of joke. He had seen the housekeeper several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would he know her name? He handed in his paper, leaving the last question blank.

Just before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward the quiz grade. “Absolutely,” said the professor. “In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They each deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say ‘hello’”. Mark never forgot that lesson. He also learned her name was Dorothy. Everyone in your life is everyone just like the people you give importance to.

Moral of the Story: Everyday, we meet people that will, at some point or another, make an impact in our lives. Some of these people, we don’t think much about simply because they’re always in the background. They don’t put too much attention on themselves. But every person we meet is important because he or she will make a difference in our life. Treasure those who are around you.

Everyone has a Story in Life

A 24-year-old boy seeing out from the train’s window shouted, “Dad, look the trees are going behind!”

Dad smiled and a young couple sitting nearby, looked at the 24-year old’s childish behavior with pity, suddenly he again exclaimed, “Dad, look the clouds are running with us!”

The couple couldn’t resist and said to the old ma, “Why don’t you take your son to a good doctor?” The old man smiled and said, “I did and we are just coming from the hospital, my son was blind from birth, he just got his eyes today.

Moral of the Story: Sometimes we make a judgment too quickly not realizing that people act in certain situations because they are going through something. Every single person in the world has his or her own battles to face. Don’t judge too harshly. Instead, be kind and try to understand where a person is coming from.

Unnecessary Doubts

Marbles (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

A boy and a girl were playing together. The boy had a collection of marbles. The girl had some sweets with her. The boy told the girl that he would give her all his marbles in exchange for her sweets. The girl agreed. The boy kept the biggest and the most beautiful marble aside and gave the rest to the girl. The girl gave him all her sweets as she had promised. That night, the girl slept peacefully. But the boy couldn’t sleep as he kept wondering if the girl had hidden some sweets from him the way he had hidden his best marble.

If you don’t give your hundred percent in a relationship, you’ll always keep doubting if the other person has given his/her hundred percent. “I did and we are just coming from the hospital, my son was blind from birth, he just got his eyes today.

Moral of the Story: Trust and sincerity are important in a relationship. If you keep doubting your partner then the growing sense of distrust will eventually cause discord in your relationship. Always do things with the best of intentions and you’ll be rewarded for it.

The Carpenter

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer/contractor of his plans to leave the house-building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife enjoying his extended family. He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by.

The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end his career.

When the carpenter finished his work and the builder came to inspect the house, the contractor handed the front-door key to the carpenter. “This is your house,” he said, “my gift to you.”

What a shock! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently. Now he had to live in the home he had built none too well.

So it is with us. We build our lives in a distracted way, reacting rather than acting, willing to put up less than the best. At important points, we do not give the job our best effort. Then with a shock we look at the situation we have created and find that we are now living in the house we have built. If we had realized, we would have done it differently.

Think of yourself as the carpenter. Think about your house. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Build wisely. It is the only life you will ever build. Even if you live it for only one day more, that day deserves to be lived graciously and with dignity. The plaque on the wall says, “Life is a do-it-yourself project.”

Moral of the Story: The life you live right now is the result of all the attitudes and choices you made in the past. If you’d like to live the life you’ve always dreamed of, now’s the best time to start making positive changes in your life. Remember, your future will depend on the choices you make right now so tread carefully.

A New Ending

No one can go back and make a brand new start. Anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.

There isn’t promise of days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but can promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way.

Disappointments are like road bumps, they slow you down a bit but you enjoy the smooth road afterward. Don’t stay on the bumps too long. Move on! When you feel down because you didn’t get what you want, just sit tight, and be happy.

There’s a purpose to life’s events, to teach you how to laugh more or not to cry too hard. You can’t make someone love you, all you can do is be someone who can be loved, and the rest is up to the person to realize your worth. It’s better to lose your pride to the one you love, than to lose the one you love because of pride. We spend too much time looking for the right person to love or finding fault with those we already love, when instead we should be perfecting the love we give.

Moral of the Story: A true friend will be with you through thick or thin so never abandon an old friend. Stay true to those who love you because friendship only gets better with time!

The Man Who Sold Good Hot Dogs

There was once a man who lived by the side of the road and sold hot dogs.  He was hard of hearing so he had no radio – he had trouble with his eyes, so he read no newspapers and of course, he didn’t look at television.  But he sold very good hot dogs. He put up signs on the highway telling everyone how good they were, he stood on the side of the road and cried out to all that past ‘”buy a hot dog, they are the best in town.”

And people bought his hot dogs and he increased his meat and bun orders. He bought a bigger stove to take care of all the extra business. He finally got his son to come and help him out with his business.

Then something happened, his son who had been well educated said, “Father, haven’t you been listening to the radio or reading the newspapers or watching television? There’s a big recession happening right now. The current business situation is terrible in this country – we have problems with unemployment, high living costs, strikes, pollution, the influence of minorities and majorities, the rich, the poor, drugs, alcohol, capitalism and communism.”

Whereupon his father thought, “well my son’s been well educated, he reads the papers, listens to the radio and watches television, so he ought to know.”

So his father cut down on his meat and bun orders, took down all his advertising signs and no longer bothered to stand by the side of the road to promote and sell his hot dogs and his hot dog sales fell almost overnight. “You’re right, son,” the father said. “We certainly are in the middle of a recession.”

Moral of the Story: What you say to others, no matter how insignificant it may seem, may have profound repercussions later on. In the story, the hotdog seller was selling his products so briskly his son came home to help his out. But when the vendor’s son commented on the economic crisis of the country, the hot dog sales dropped significantly.

What you say to others may have profound repercussions later on. Click To Tweet

Instead of letting cancer beat him, he learned more about the disease. He sought answers from books, resources and support groups, learning everything he could about cancer. His tenacity led to a successful treatment and a major comeback in cycling.

Whenever he comes across problems, Lance found strength in three things his mother taught him: “Make every obstacle an opportunity”, “Always work hard and good things will happen” and “Don’t believe it when other people say you can’t”.

Before Walt Disney built the world’s most iconic animation company, he was fired from a newspaper due to “lack of creativity.” After that, he moved on by launching his first animation business called Laugh-O-Gram Films on a $15,000 capital. But even that company failed, leaving Disney desperately out of cash. Instead of giving up, he went to Hollywood and worked hard, creating unforgettable cartoon characters and found success.

Milton Hershey

Hershey’s chocolate is beloved all over the world but before the classic Hershey milk chocolate bars and kisses, there was Milton Hershey, an apprentice freshly fired from a printing job. Milton didn’t let setbacks get in the way of his success. He worked hard perfecting his core ingredients and dusted himself off again and again even as his investments dwindled.

It took three failed candy companies before Milton got it right with his namesake brand. Rather than cater to the well-heeled consumers, be brought milk chocolate to the masses. This was the secret to Hershey’s lasting legacy.

10 Inspiring Moral Stories for Adults

Who doesn’t love reading feel-good stories, short stories for adults with moral lessons especially after a tough day? Sometimes when the going gets tough, we forget all the beautiful things that occur in our lives. We are so caught up in the moment that we fail to appreciate what’s in front of us. These short stories for adults come with a moral lesson that’ll motivate and inspire:

All the Difference in The World

All the Difference in the World - moral story for adults

Every Sunday morning I take a light jog around a park near my home.  There’s a lake located in one corner of the park.  Each time I jog by this lake, I see the same elderly woman sitting at the water’s edge with a small metal cage sitting beside her.

This past Sunday my curiosity got the best of me, so I stopped jogging and walked over to her.  As I got closer, I realized that the metal cage was, in fact, a small trap.  There were three turtles, unharmed, slowly walking around the base of the trap.  She had a fourth turtle in her lap that she was carefully scrubbing with a sponge brush.

“Hello,” I said.  “I see you here every Sunday morning.  If you don’t mind my nosiness, I’d love to know what you’re doing with these turtles.”

She smiled.  “I’m cleaning off their shells,” she replied.  “Anything on a turtle’s shell, like algae or scum, reduces the turtle’s ability to absorb heat and impedes its ability to swim.  It can also corrode and weaken the shell over time.”

“Wow!  That’s really nice of you!” I exclaimed.

She went on: “I spend a couple of hours each Sunday morning, relaxing by this lake and helping these little guys out.  It’s my own strange way of making a difference.”

“But don’t most freshwater turtles live their whole lives with algae and scum hanging from their shells?” I asked.

“Yep, sadly, they do,” she replied.

I scratched my head.  “Well then, don’t you think your time could be better spent?  I mean, I think your efforts are kind and all, but there are freshwater turtles living in lakes all around the world.  And 99% of these turtles don’t have kind people like you to help them clean off their shells.  So, no offense… but how exactly are your localized efforts here truly making a difference?”

The woman giggled aloud.  She then looked down at the turtle in her lap, scrubbed off the last piece of algae from its shell, and said, “Sweetie, if this little guy could talk, he’d tell you I just made all the difference in the world.”

The Moral of the Story: Each one of us can change the world. Maybe we can’t change the world right away but a single good deed will resonate with the rest of the world. Make every day count by knowing that you are capable of so much good, you just need to be brave to make the world a better place!

The Weight of the Glass

Once upon a time, a psychology professor walked around on a stage while teaching stress management principles to an auditorium filled with students.  As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the typical “glass half empty or glass half full” question.  Instead, with a smile on her face, the professor asked, “How heavy is this glass of water I’m holding?”

Students shouted out answers ranging from eight ounces to a couple pounds.

She replied, “From my perspective, the absolute weight of this glass doesn’t matter.  It all depends on how long I hold it.  If I hold it for a minute or two, it’s fairly light.  If I hold it for an hour straight, its weight might make my arm ache a little.  If I hold it for a day straight, my arm will likely cramp up and feel completely numb and paralyzed, forcing me to drop the glass to the floor.  In each case, the weight of the glass doesn’t change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it feels to me.”

As the class shook their heads in agreement, she continued, “Your stresses and worries in life are very much like this glass of water.  Think about them for a while and nothing happens.  Think about them a bit longer and you begin to ache a little.  Think about them all day long, and you will feel completely numb and paralyzed – incapable of doing anything else until you drop them.”

The Moral of the Story: On days when you’re stressed out and feeling overwhelmed, learn to embrace the inevitable and let go. Some things cannot be controlled and no amount of worrying could put all your burdens away. Instead of letting stress get to you, embrace it and conquer it. Let yesterday’s worries inspire you to a productive day.

Shark Bait

Shark Bait - 10 Inspiring Moral Stories for Adults

During a research experiment, a marine biologist placed a shark into a large holding tank and then released several small bait fish into the tank.

As you would expect, the shark quickly swam around the tank, attacked and ate the smaller fish.

The marine biologist then inserted a strong piece of clear fiberglass into the tank, creating two separate partitions. She then put the shark on one side of the fiberglass and a new set of bait fish on the other.

Again, the shark quickly attacked.  This time, however, the shark slammed into the fiberglass divider and bounced off.  Undeterred, the shark kept repeating this behavior every few minutes to no avail.  Meanwhile, the baitfish swam around unharmed in the second partition.  Eventually, about an hour into the experiment, the shark gave up.

This experiment was repeated several dozen times over the next few weeks.  Each time, the shark got less aggressive and made fewer attempts to attack the baitfish, until eventually, the shark got tired of hitting the fiberglass divider and simply stopped attacking altogether.

The marine biologist then removed the fiberglass divider, but the shark did not attack.  The shark was trained to believe a barrier existed between it and the baitfish, so the baitfish swam wherever they wished, free from harm.

The Moral of the Story:  Most people tend to give up after facing a series of setbacks and failures. But do not let these setbacks keep you from trying again. Think of each setback as an opportunity to learn. Do not let the barriers that you set for yourself in your mind keep you from achieving your goals. Remember, nothing is impossible if you set your mind to it.

Being and Breathing

After spending nearly every waking minute with Angel for eight straight days, I knew that I had to tell her just one thing.  So late at night, just before she fell asleep, I whispered it in her ear.  She smiled – the kind of smile that makes me smile back –and she said, “When I’m seventy-five and I think about my life and what it was like to be young, I hope that I can remember this very moment.”

A few seconds later, she closed her eyes and fell asleep.  The room was peaceful – almost silent.  All I could hear was the soft purr of her breathing.  I stayed awake thinking about the time we’d spent together and all the choices in our lives that made this moment possible.  And at some point, I realized that it didn’t matter what we’d done or where we’d gone.  Nor did the future hold any significance.

All that mattered was the serenity of the moment.

Just being with her and breathing with her.

The Moral of the Story:  Our days are made up of fleeting moments. In a split second, these moments are gone. Do not let external pressures or stress keep you from appreciating the little moments that makes life beautiful. Every day is a miracle, from the moment you open your eyes in the morning and close your eyes at night.

Value the Things You Have In Your Life

A story tells that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey, they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face.

The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand “Today my best friend slapped me in the face”.

They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone “Today my best friend saved my life”.

The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, “After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone, why?” The other friend replied, “When someone hurts us we should write it down in the sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it.”

The Moral of the Story: It’s much easier to hold a grudge when you feel wronged but never close your heart to forgiveness. Sometimes we are all too consumed with our own emotions that we are temporarily blinded by hate or grief. Negative emotions will only bring you down. Letting go of the past and valuing the people that love you is the way to live a rich, rewarding life.

Proven Techniques for Self Motivation

It’s normal to go through an emotional slump every once in a while. After all, life isn’t all rainbows and butterflies. Reflection, a little pep talk or a good story is usually enough to uplift one’s mood but if emotional slumps come in waves, you should always keep yourself inspired actively. The good news is, there are techniques for self motivation that have been proven to work. If you’re in dire need of a positive boost, here are the best techniques for self motivation:

Chase the blues away with these effective techniques for self-motivation! Click To Tweet

Live in Positivity

One of the best ways to keep a positive mindset is to live in positivity. Something as simple as keeping your home or office clean is enough to achieve the right mindset. Finding joy in the simplest things helps alleviate stress and reduce the overwhelming feelings of hopelessness. Positive thinking, affirmations, seeing the good in the bad, all these things could help you hurdle the toughest challenges!

Keep Good Company

Apart from keeping a positive mindset, the friends you keep should help you find the motivation you need to keep going. Touch base with your friends, hang out, trade banters or share a cup of coffee. There are so many ways to keep the mood cheerful and light. It also helps if you’d connect with motivated people to keep you inspired!

Don’t Stop Learning!

Don't Stop Learning!

Two of the root causes of self-doubt are anxiety and low self-esteem. These negative emotions could lead to mental distress, even serious conditions like depression. Continuous learning is one of the best ways to inhibit self-doubt. When you’re continuously learning about a certain task or a project, you become more confident about yourself and your skills. So read up, never stop learning and continue asking questions and seeking answers.

Don’t  Overthink

Anxiety is normal when you’re faced with a new or difficult task. Apart from learning more about the project, it also helps if you avoid overthinking especially at night. Instead of thinking all the worst scenarios, focus your energies on preparing yourself. Don’t stay up all night obsessing over the things that could go wrong. Put all that energy on something positive, like empowering your thoughts!

Choose Happiness

Happiness is a choice, so is misery. Now you have a choice, would you like to stay happy or would you rather marinade in misery? What would you choose? Happiness is a choice, if you are 100% committed on maintaining a positive mindset and a happy disposition, your mood will stay uplifted.

Live in the Moment

Live in the Moment - Proven Techniques for Self Motivation

Remember the old adage, “Don’t worry about the past, it’s gone. Don’t stress about the future, it hasn’t arrived. Live in the present and make it beautiful.” Instead of living in regret for all the things you could’ve done or worry yourself sick about the future, focus on the present. Live every second to the fullest and you’ll discover how beautiful life truly is!

Don’t Be Afraid of Failure

No one like the idea of failing but some of the most important lessons in life are learned the hard way. Don’t quit whenever you’re faced with a setback. Instead of fearing failure, take every challenge as an opportunity to learn. Just dust yourself off every time you fall down and never quit. You’ll only truly fail if you stop trying!

Inspire Others

The next time you feel an overwhelming sense of hopelessness, try this trick: help others. Not only will you feel better about yourself, you’ll realize that life has so much to offer. Don’t let yourself be consumed by hopelessness. Go out there, share your ideas and connect with friends who need a little inspiration to get them motivated. All that positive energies will rub on you and you’ll feel motivated too!

Stop with the Excuses

No More Excuses - Proven Techniques for Self Motivation

Excuses are for the lazy. Whenever you feel like giving up and making excuses for it, look at your excuses in the eye and take action. Each time you give in to excuses, you’re only setting yourself farther away from your goals. Be true to yourself and take action. Don’t allow excuses to ruin your momentum.

Reward Yourself

Sometimes we do things that we don’t like because it will benefit us in the long run. For instance, going to the gym every other day. Not all people like the idea of pumping iron and if you’re unable to will yourself to work out, try giving yourself a little reward.

For every task that you don’t like, link it with an activity that you genuinely like. A homemade smoothie or a healthy yet delicious treat should do it especially after a rigorous workout. Don’t be afraid to reward yourself once in a while.

The Best Jay Z Inspirational Quotes About Life, Success, and Hustling

Jay-Z is one of the most successful hip-hop and rap artists of his generation but there’s more to the man than his bestselling albums. He’s a self-made millionaire and entrepreneur who has a knack for making profits out of everything he sets his sights on.

The 21-time Grammy award winner is one of the best-selling musicians of all time. He also owns a host of multimillion businesses including Roc-A-Fella Records and Roc Nation. Not bad for a kid from the projects with big dreams. And just to inspire you to hold onto your dreams and continue fighting the good fight, here are the best Jay Z inspirational quotes about life, success, and hustling:

As a man who's no stranger to hustling, here are some of best Jay Z inspirational quotes. Click To Tweet

“I was forced to be an artist and a CEO from the beginning, so I was forced to be like a businessman because when I was trying to get a record deal, it was so hard to get a record deal on my own that it was either give up or create my own company.”

Jay-Z (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Trust Jay-Z to never balked at any challenge then and now. Living in poverty for most of his life, Jay-Z strived hard to make his dreams come true: to become a recording artist. And he was quite successful too!

“I’m hungry for knowledge. The whole thing is to learn every day, to get brighter and brighter. That’s what this world is about. You look at someone like Gandhi, and he glowed. Martin Luther King glowed. Muhammad Ali glows. I think that’s from being bright all the time, and trying to be brighter.”

When the going gets tough, don’t give up! Just keep going until all your hard work pays off. Jay-Z was betting on his talent and persistence when he had nothing else. He’s always learning, discovering new ways to do business and make the most of his talents.

“As kids, we didn’t complain about being poor; we talked about how rich we were going to be and made moves to get the lifestyle we aspired to by any means we could. And as soon as we had a little money, we were eager to show it.”

Jay Z’s mindset is the same with others who are committed to finding success. Instead of focusing on negativity, Jay-Z took action. He went out there and took advantage of all opportunities to hone his skills and seal a record deal. Now his brand goes beyond music.

“You make your first album, you make some money, and you feel like you still have to show face, like ‘I still go to the projects.’ I’m like, why? Your job is to inspire people from your neighborhood to get out. You grew up there. What makes you think it’s so cool?”

Jay-Z never forgot where he came from and he’s always committed to giving back to the community, particularly in his old neighborhood. He’s also a great inspiration for aspiring artists, giving deserving artists the exposure they need to get a recording deal.

“I would run into the corner store, the bodega, and just grab a paper bag or buy juice – anything just to get a paper bag. And I’d write the words on the paper bag and stuff these ideas in my pocket until I got back. Then I would transfer them into the notebook.”

Jay-Z (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Jay-Z was 100% committed to his art. Despite the mounting odds stacked against him, his love for his craft and the music industry as a whole inspired him to create some of the best rap songs in history.

“One of the reasons inequality gets so deep in this country is that everyone wants to be rich. That’s the American ideal. Poor people don’t like talking about poverty because even though they might live in the projects surrounded by other poor people and have, like, ten dollars in the bank, they don’t like to think of themselves as poor.”

Instead of focusing on the bad, Jay-Z was always thinking ahead, of all the amazing things that are to come thanks to his hard work. When the odds are against you, don’t give up. Instead, take these roadblocks as a learning experience.

“My brands are an extension of me. They’re close to me. It’s not like running GM, where there’s no emotional attachment.”

Managing multiple businesses is a struggle but only if you’re not fully committed to making each venture a success. Jay-Z owns a variety of businesses, most of which are successful. His secret? He doesn’t do things halfheartedly. Everything he does, he gives his 100%.

“The burden of poverty isn’t just that you don’t always have the things you need, it’s the feeling of being embarrassed every day of your life, and you’d do anything to lift that burden.”

Everyone has a shot at success, it’s just a matter of fighting for your dreams regardless if you have limited resources. Jay-Z grew up in the projects and his humble beginnings set the stage for his successful music career, along with his businesses. He did not let poverty or hopelessness bring him down.

“Those who are successful overcome their fears and take action. Those who aren’t submit to their fears and live with regret.”

Fortune befriends the bold. If you have what it takes to make it big, you will. Through hard work and persistence, anyone can become a success. Do not let self-doubt keep you from achieving your dreams.

“All I got is dreams. Nobody else believes. Nobody else can see. Nobody else but me.”

Even when nobody believed he could be the successful artist and entrepreneur that he is today, Jay-Z never stopped dreaming. He didn’t let other people’s perception of him dampen his resolve. He worked hard and believed in himself when nobody did.

“We hustle out of a sense of hopelessness. Sort of a desperation. Through that desperation, we become addicted. But we feel we have nothing to list. So we offer you, well, we offer our lives. What do you bring to the table?”

Despite being one of the wealthiest artists of his generation, Jay-Z is no stranger to hopelessness and desperation. But he didn’t let negativity bring him down. Instead, he took action because he wanted a better life for himself and his family.

Julia Roberts plays Erin Brockovich, a down-on-her-luck single mother who fought against a multi-million power company… and won. The film is a classic retelling of David versus Goliath only this time; it involves a tough-talking mom in a push-up bra + a horde of suits at her heels. At the end of the film, Brockovich won her case and achieved a milestone in her career.

Not only did she help her role model avoid a conviction for a crime she didn’t commit, but Elle also graduated summa cum laude. Well that, and she found a loving partner who supports her career!

The story revolves around Tate, a big shot executive who faces US deportation from an expired visa.
